Emily Anderson Family Learning Center

The Emily Center is an innovative library and learning lab for the families and friends of children with special health care needs. It stands as a memorial to Emily Katherine Anderson who dies in 1986 following a three year fight with a rare form of adult leukemia.

During Emily's illness her parents learned first hand how desperately families need up to date health care information and medical training skills training in order to cope with a child's illness. Following Emily's death they established a memorial fund with which to develop a family learning center.

The JLP became aware of the proposed center through Emily's aunt. The Junior League joined the development task force and is credited with developing the center's volunteer program, marketing plan, computer system and various administrative procedures. The JLP is proud to have played a part in the development of such a meritorious program.
