Teen Outreach 1990 – 1993

Teen Outreach addressed the problem of teen pregnancy, the highschool drop out rate and trained teens on career opportunities, problem solving techniques and communication skills.

Students met in small groups of 15 to 20 that were led by a trained adult facilitator. The facilitator presented various topics and related exercises aided at generating discussion in a positive secure environment. In addition to exploring relevant issues, teens were encouraged to serve as volunteers in their community.

Teen Outreach worked. National teen outreach programs achieved a 15 percent lower suspension rate, a 8.5 percent lower failure rate and a 38 percent reduction in the number of drop outs, and a 42 percent lower pregnancy rate.
